Taping the Natural Ear
I have had many requests to explain how to tape the natural ear, so I have put together some photos to explain.
The standard for natural ears states that the ears should be of moderate size, thin, lying flat and close to the cheeks in repose, but fall forward in a definite crease when alert.
Many boxers need help in getting that crease to form in the right place.

Take the ear and pull the tip gently. With your other hand use your middle finger to help place the crease in the center of the ear where it should be.

Fold the ear over so that both sides are even with neither side overlapping more than the other. You want the fold to be straight and you don't want the ear to be mashed together.

Apply the tape to the under side of the ear and fold it around the ear. Be careful that it isnt so tight that it will cut off the circulation in the ear.

This is how it will look when you are done. Just trim off the excess. I use regular masking tape. It doesn't stay on for long, but it also doesn't pull the hair out like some of the other tapes do, and my dogs havent had a reaction to the adhesive. Other people have used vet wrap, elasticon, sports tape, or electrical tape with success.
Keep in mind that every dog is different. The amount of time you will have to tape and your success depends on the individual dog, his ears, and his ear set. Some dogs may never have completely correct ears even after months of
tapping. For others it wont be so difficult.
Stay Patient!
