Sonny 2006 2 years

Sonny....my baby boy. This is the dog that opened my eyes to what the boxers of other countries have to offer. Although he and Shayna are both boxers, if you look at them closely you will see that there are significant differences in their builds, and the structure of their head.

Sonny was born in Canada, however his sire and dam came from South Africa. His bloodlines are therefore South African, but his lineage can be traced back to Old German, Dutch, and even some old American blood.

Sonny has qualities that many North American Boxers are lacking. He has substance, but with correct size. Sonny is 24 inches tall and 75 pounds. So many Boxers competing in the ring today are over standard in height, and lack substance to the point that some males look feminine. He has the correct round bone that Boxers are supposed to have rather than the flat bone that we see so often. He has a strong topline and is well sprung through the rib. He has a much more correct front than most, with good length of upper arm and nice layback of shoulder. He is balanced front to back. He has double dark haws and lovely shaped dark expressive eyes. The results of Sonny's health testing are excellent,  however the single most important thing that Sonny has to offer is the most steady and stable temperament that I have ever seen in a dog. He is unflappable, and is a very kind dog. He also has the working ability that is sadly lacking in this working breed today.

What do I like about the foreign dogs? I very much like the substance of these dogs. They have a lot more to them than many of the dogs bred in North America.

Their heads are different than what you see here most often as well. They tend to be broader, more domed in the skull, and their muzzles are shorter and generally wider. I like both types. The very chiseled look of the North American dogs is very appealing, and makes for a very noble silhouette...but I also very much like the broader muzzle , and doming of the head, the correct natural ears, and the soft expression of the dogs from Europe, Australia, and the UK.

Sonny has a very steady and stable temperament. In general, he is more sober or serious than Shayna, but if you want to start a game, he will get just as goofy as the others. He is a cuddler, and is happiest if he can drape at least half of his body across your lap.

Sonny takes Reserve Winners Dog at the Two Cities Kennel Club AKC show in Yuba City!

Sonny takes a Group 4 at the AKC Sanctioned B match Held in San Rafael by The Sir Francis Drake Kennel Club!

Sonny passed his temperament test held by the American Rottweiler Fanciers and The American Temperament Test Society, in Dixon, Ca. on August 6th. Awesome Job Sweet Boy! I am so proud!

Sonny took two Group 4 placements in the UKC shows held in Dixon, Ca. on July 22, 2006, hosted by the Northern California Rat Terrier Association to complete his UKC Championship. This boy just keeps getting better with age! The temperature was 106 in the shade, and so it was no mean feat for my boy to strut his stuff when he was wilting in the heat.

Here are some of my favorite pictures of Sonny.

I thought this was a fun comparison. The first photo was taken when Sonny was about 8 or 9 weeks old. The second was taken on 4/6/07 when Sonny was nearly three. His expressions haven't changed. :)
